Artist Statement

I create Lindatwist Jewelry not only because I want to, but because I have to.  My secret is the GPS system of ideas – all I have to do is reach up and ask for one and the system takes note of my location, and I just take it and fly off into the next adventure of creating one-of-a-kind wearable art that has a definite WOW factor.

My jewelry is a metaphor of life, a collage.  Each necklace, bracelet, or earring is a tribute to the past, as I love to use unloved and discarded items, pair them with other wayfaring strangers, and create a new family unit that marches into their new future proud and sure of being loved and appreciated.

I sit down at my table with no pre-conceived ideas;  my hands are my favorite tool – and when I start to use them the ideas flow.  I only need a few other tools – eyes to select the building blocks that make up Lindatwist constructions, several varieties of pliers, good lighting, and I can birth wonderful architecture for the body temple.  I love to start with unrelated and sometimes discarded objects and turn the dysfunction into functional pieces of wearable art.

Although I have been making jewelry for over 20 years, I have never made it my only focal point of creativity, as I have also been working on jewelry for the wall using copper and steel to construct much larger sculptures.  Now I have decided to use some of those same principles and transfer them into sculpture for the body.  My jewelry sculptures are kinetic, have texture, color and drama and help me to satisfy my need to create art using very mundane items and tools - creative recycling at its best.
